WILLISTON - John L. Depew, 60, passed away at home after a short illness. 

John was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky, in June 1964. After graduating from Beaufort High School, class of 1982, John attended the University of South Carolina and earned his degree in Business Administration with a double major in Finance and Operations Management in 1987. John moved to Barnwell to work at Milliken until the plant closed in 2009 after which he began working at the Savannah River Site. John was a scout master with Boy Scout Troop 392 and Troop 65, and presently volunteered as the NCAP Chair for the Georgia-Carolina Council committee. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church of Barnwell. He was a tried-and-true fan of University of South Carolina Gamecocks and carried his love of football to coaching Barnwell and Williston recreational football for almost 20 years. John also appeared both on and off the stage and as a volunteer with the Circle Theatre of Barnwell for many years.

John is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dana; sons, John Jr. (Erika) of Lexington, S.C., Bryan Depew of Aiken, S.C., Andrew Depew of Vail, CO; a sister, Mary Iacono (Kevin) of Bluffton, S.C.; a brother. Joseph Depew (Kim) of Chattanooga, TN; 4 grandchildren, John III, Irelynn, Elijah and Xander; 20 nieces and nephews; mother-in-law. Peggy Ward of Port Royal; and father-in-law. Joseph Fulgieri of Beaufort.

John is predeceased by his parents, William and Carolyn Depew of Beaufort; and his brothers, James and William John Depew II (Beaufort).

The family requests any memorial donations be made to the Williston Fire Department (13122 Main Street, Williston, S.C. 29853) or the Elko Fire Department (P.O. Box 217, Elko, S.C. 29826) for their dedication and commitment in service to others in lieu of flowers.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 o’clock a.m., Saturday, September 28, 2024 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, S.C. with the Reverend Joseph Tokar officiating; burial will follow at the Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.
