Raiders volleyball beats Crusaders and War Hawks

The Jefferson Davis Raiders volleyball team, coached by Bart Owens, faced the Curtis Baptist Crusaders and the Colleton Prep War Hawks last week. JDA came away with both wins to go 2-0 for the week and increased the Raiders record to 9-3 on the year.

JDA’s squad is hoping to make a good run in the 2024 State playoffs, but will need to keep improving and winning matches like they did this past week. The Raiders have started playing better and working more as a team as the season advances.

Coach Owens was asked about the Raiders’ win over Curtis Baptist and Colleton Prep and he said, “On Sept. 17 we played a region game at Curtis Baptist, and we won 3-1. We started off slowly but we played well in the second set and went on to win the next two sets. It was a big win to keep us undefeated in region play.”

During their home game against Colleton Prep on Thursday, “we started out on fire winning 25-8 in the first set, but then lost the next two sets. We had to win in five sets to get the victory. Our girls are playing very well but we are striving to be our best in October.”

“On the season we are 9-3 with our only losses coming against AA and AAA teams so we are doing what we need to do. I keep pushing our team to be better every time we step on the floor. We have key games coming up to finish the season, so playing our best will be important,” said Coach Owens.

The Jefferson Davis Academy Raider volleyball team consists of Sydney Owens, Elie Fogle, Carrie Lynn Loadholt, Kaylee Jackson, Rynn Fickling, Mattie Morris, Mason Roberts, Abby Deering, Ava Gozman, Rileigh York, and Riley Williams.

The Raiders will host Holly Hill Academy this Thursday, September 26. The match should start about 6:30, so come on out and cheer these ladies on to another JDA win! Let’s go Raiders!
